BLACKOUT (2023) - BEHIND THE SCENES

When Larry Fessenden asked me to do a painted animation sequence in his movie BLACKOUT I had done a few painted animation sequences already, but I felt like I could go farther. I really wanted to feel like each image received its own kind character and love - the way you would care about the completion of an individual painting.
I figured making the around 250 images in the sequence would take about two months - and as usual I was off by a factor of almost two. The paintings could take me as much as 10 hours to complete and in the most intricate part of the sequence involving the werewolf’s face I was able to do only one a day. So I ended up needing to take other work and the overall time I worked on the project stretched from November of 2022 to June of 2023.

I did listen to a lot of audiobooks during the project, which made it all worth it.
